[Blue Lightning parent commentary: The experience was almost marred by the outrageous behavior of the coaches and parents of Impact GFC (a Christian based club) and TFA Storm (both teams perhaps not used to premier level play). Their behavior included (this is just a sample) dropping F-bombs in front of the players and children, trying to intimidate 9 year-old girls by shouting negative personal remarks at them, and encouraging their players to hurt our girls.
Fortunately, the immaturity (grow up people), ignorance (learn the game), and shameful sportsmanship (leave the girls out of it), of these coaches and parents was checked by responsible referees (who made good calls), parent ejections, and quality soccer by the girls on BOTH teams.
We have played a lot of teams over the years - including teams we beat and really good teams that beat us badly - and I have never seen anything like the coaches and parent behaviors of these two teams. I have 5 kids in youth soccer - so I have seen and coached a lot of games and even been guilty of stupid behavior myself. But I have never seen anything as toxic and nasty. My recommendation to friends (and even people like this) is, win or lose, to let the referees call the game - and not attack the players or try to incite violence.
